LABS / COLOURING

Palette Session runs labs through its unique approach to movement research - termed ‘Colouring’.

‘Colouring’ is a rigorous inquiry into a single element of a dancer’s movement, encouraging infinite permutations and successive iterations.

Run over a minimum of four weeks in small groups of three people, Colouring features both independent movement research (i.e. ‘labbing’) and structured Q&As with the cohort.

During these structured Q&As, participants alternate between the roles of performers and outside eye. This feedback cycle yields fresh provocations an deepens shared knowledge.

PALETTE EXCHANGE

In 2025/26, Palette Session ran Colouring Labs with 5 Australian and 5 Korean dancers over one year. We engaged in this process online and in-person in Seoul and Sydney.

Independent movement research manifested as journalling, cultural immersion, participating in battles outside the Colouring process, etc. Any activity to feed the dancers’ creative practices, imagination and investigations.
